Why Marketing Is So Difficult

It feels like marketing is the most popular topic in business right now. It’s not, but it sure seems like it is. I’ve seen blog posts, podcasts, and books on marketing come out at an absurd rate over the past few years. You can’t scroll down your Facebook feed without seeing some sort of post about what type of content works best or what engagement metrics to look for when posting a video. It’s not easy to stand out with all of this content being produced by marketers themselves!

Marketing Is Everywhere In Business Today…And That Feels Overwhelming!

A lot of people are talking about marketing these days, but that doesn’t mean there’s a lot that can be done to make your products stand out from the rest. A lot has changed since the 90s with businesses focusing more on digital strategies than ever before. This means companies have to take their time figuring out how they want their brand image portrayed in social media and other formats because their product or service is competing with thousands (even millions) more every day for consumers’ attention online as well as offline! How do you think people feel when they’re scrolling through their Facebook feed? They’re bombarded by ads from brands that are “posting” multiple times per day trying to get views and likes so they can upsell customers on other products or services later down the road. I have many methods of digital marketing, but I feel like it’s important to use each channel strategically and intentionally. That’s why it’s good to have a marketing strategy in place before you start posting on social media or sending out emails!

Social Media Is Very Popular And There Are A lot Of Platforms To Choose From Today!

I think social media has been a big part of marketing for the past few years, but that doesn’t mean the momentum is going to slow down anytime soon. In fact, I see more and more people on Twitter every time I log in. The same goes for other platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn. Social media is where people go to get their news, entertainment, information about products/services they’re looking for or not even looking for–I mean we all know that many people are just browsing Facebook when they should be working right? Anyways…social media has become an integral part of how brands communicate with customers on a daily basis because everything is constantly changing online at such a fast pace! Just think about how many different types of content (texting emojis, gifs, videos…) are being created every single day by marketers who want your attention on their brand rather than someone else’s brand. It seems like there isn’t much room left online given the exponential growth in the number of users over the past few years.

Marketing Is A Constant Juggling Act…Sometimes You’re On Top, Sometimes You’re Not!

All of this content being created and shared online is a good thing (and bad) for marketers. It’s easy to get lost in this field today because there are thousands of different ways to promote your brand online, offline, and in the physical world. With so many options at our disposal today, it can be hard to decide what’s right for your company or business that you’ve been working hard on building over time. For example: is Facebook really the best place for your brand? What about LinkedIn? Instagram? Twitter? How do you know when a social media platform isn’t working anymore or when it can be helpful again in the future due to changes being made by Facebook or Twitter (or other platforms)? It was only a few months ago that Facebook announced they were changing their newsfeed algorithm yet again.

Marketing is so difficult these days because the platforms we have to use for promotion are constantly changing, there’s an overload of content being produced by marketers online, and it can be hard to find a competitive advantage when you’re in a sea of brands that are trying to build their own audiences. It doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to generate leads or traffic from social media or other sources anymore. It just means that it’s not as easy as it was even 5 years ago. I think the best way for your brand/company/business to stand out is through word of mouth marketing (aka referrals). There are many ways that you can do this too like getting influencers on board with your brand and referral program, but that’s something I’m going to cover at another time!
