There are several misconceptions about carpet cleaning that have persisted over the years despite the advancement of modern technology. Here we list some popular myths with reasons why they don’t apply today.
Misconception 1 “Wait as long as possible before Carpet Cleaning Sharjah the carpet because the longer you clean it, the dirtier it gets.”
This is not true because dirt is abrasive so every time you step on the carpet, the dirt gets into the carpet fibers, which damages the carpet. A dirty carpet will need to be replaced before it can be cleaned. Vacuuming alone will not keep the carpet free of grease and fine particles that contribute to carpet wear.
Myth 2 “You only need to clean a carpet when it looks dirty”
Not really – you’ll wash the clothes after wearing them, even if they look clean. The same applies to carpets – the air contains pollen, fungi, bacteria and air pollutants such as cigarette smoke, car exhaust fumes and hundreds of other chemicals. Your hair, skin, clothes and shoes can carry them from outside to your carpet.
Pollens, mold and chemicals in your carpet can increase allergies and breathing problems.
Myth 3 “All cleaning methods have the same result”
There are two basic methods, dry cleaning or hot water extraction.
(a) Dry Cleaning (This is not the same as dry Deep Cleaning Services clothes as all carpet cleaning methods use water in some form, whether dry foam, dry chemical or dry compound methods are used).
With dry foam, your carpet is shampooed and allowed to dry, followed by vacuuming to remove the foam and any clinging dirt. This old-fashioned method is the least effective and can leave a soil-attracting residue in the carpet.
The dry chemical method is similar to dry foam but a rotary machine is applied to the cloth to scrub the carpet and absorb the dirt. It’s similar to a spot cleaner and novelette but on a larger scale. This method also fails to achieve a deep clean and can also damage the carpet fibers.
These dry cleaning methods may be sufficient to maintain a lightly soiled carpet.
The dry compound method spreads an absorbent compound on the carpet, which is then machine-brushed into the carpet fibers to absorb dirt into the compound. When dry, a vacuum is used to remove the compound, similar to the dry foam method but far more effective at removing dirt and residue. This is known as the Host Dry Carpet Cleaner System which is recommended by over 70 carpet mills and is the most popular method of drying carpets in Europe.
(b) Hot water extraction (or ‘steam cleaning’ although this description is incorrect).
The hot water cleaning solution is then extracted from the carpet fibers by a powerful machine under high pressure. Its deep cleaning process completely penetrates every fiber, removing almost all moisture embedded in the carpet, along with dirt and residue, for the most effective cleaning.
The world’s largest carpet manufacturer recommends a hot water rinse. Hot water won’t damage carpet – that’s another myth! Washing and rinsing the carpet with hot water is the most effective cleaning method – as with bathing, laundry or dishwashing.
Myth 4 “Anyone Can Do It With The Right Equipment”
Of course not. Training and experience are also important. Many cleaning companies own hot water cleaners but some employees have little or no training and even some owner operators do not know how to use them properly. For this reason, it is important to choose a carpet cleaning service wisely.
Check that the company and on-site operators are fully trained and certified by the Porched Training School or the National Carpet Cleaners Association. The NCCA provides written credentials to the companies it certifies so you can request proof or check the membership directory on the NCCA.co.uk website.
Myth 5 “The lowest price must be the best price”
There are two important points to consider: that the quotes are for the exact same service and that the price advertised is the actual price you will be charged.
(a) Comparable quotations are for identical services.
As you are reading this, you are obviously doing your research. Before you invite a company for a quote, decide what you do and don’t need to get.
For example, if you want to clean the surface of the skin, there are many companies that offer shampoos or similar cleaning methods – or you can rent a machine to do it yourself.
However, if you want your carpets thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, bacteria, pollen, chemicals and other residues, hire a cleaning company, ideally a professional hot water extractor. A quotation should be provided to use the system – the best way to keep your carpet. Free from dirt and abrasive chemicals.
(b) make sure that the price you see advertised is for the services you want;
Homeowners have sometimes found themselves the victim of misleading advertising that they are charged more than the advertised or brochure price.
t Some carpet cleaners offer a low price, perhaps £9.99 per room, to give them an opportunity to pressure a potential customer into paying more once they’ve been in your home.
Myth 6 “An honest company can give references over the phone”
As with most services, an estimate can be given ‘off site’ but each job is likely to have different requirements – should an honest company push for the shortest expected service or for unforeseen difficulties? Why should you cover yourself?
Reputable carpet cleaning companies often price a job by the square footage of the carpet, based on the amount of materials used and time spent. If a potential customer can provide the exact number of square feet to be cleaned, it may be possible to get a ‘quote over the phone, with confirmation when the professional cleaner arrives on site.
Other factors to consider are:
(a) Type of carpet. Certain types of carpets take longer to clean than others.
(b) Amount of dirt. A carpet with years of accumulated dirt will take longer to clean than a carpet cleaned every few months. Also, any stains that may need special attention need to be taken into account.
(c) Quantity of furniture to be moved.
Unfortunately, there are many cleaners who are inexperienced or do not take pride in their work. Remember to use a reputable cleaning company.
