US State Department Revokes Green Cards of Three Iranian Nationals Linked to Regime Figures

The US State Department has revoked the green cards of three Iranian nationals after federal agents arrested them, according to an announcement made on Saturday.

The individuals identified by the department include Seyed Eissa Hashemi, along with his wife and son. The department said their legal permanent resident status was terminated before the arrests.

State Department officials described Hashemi as the son of an Iranian revolutionary who was involved in the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, a defining episode of Jimmy Carter’s presidency. They said his mother served as the spokesperson for Iran’s regime during that period.

The department also said the three arrests were connected to family ties involving an Iranian military general, a regime spokesperson, or a security chief.

Green cards, also known as legal permanent resident status, allow non-citizens to live and work in the United States permanently. In this case, the State Department said that status had been terminated for Hashemi and his relatives.

The announcement did not include additional details about the arrests or any criminal charges. It also did not specify when the green cards were revoked or where the federal agents made the arrests.

The case adds to the broader political and security tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly in situations involving individuals connected to the Iranian government or its institutions.
