The Gulf Conformity Mark (G Mark) is a certificate required for the low voltage electrical appliances and children toys prepared for sale across the countries of the Gulf Coordinating Council (GCC) according to the requirements set by the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) defined in the relevant Gulf technical regulations.
The Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) is responsible for regulating and supervising the conformity activities related to exchanging goods among the GCC countries. The G Mark in this regard acts as proof of products conformity to the Gulf standards and technical regulation.
The GSO considers the best practice in this field globally while setting and adopting its standards and regulation and defining the conformity requirement.
The G Mark scope division
The products covered by the G Mark are divided into two lists according to the required conformity procedures as follows:
List 1 products don’t require assigning a third party to carry out the conformity assessment, the manufacturer takes responsibility for proving the product’s conformity to standards as a conformity self-declaration is required.
List 2 products require assigning a notified body accredited by the GSO and the Gulf Accreditation Center (GAC) to carry out the conformity assessment for the G Mark granting.
The advantages of the G Mark
The G Mark in addition to being a supervising tool to ensure the quality and safety of products before placing them in the Gulf market ensures many benefits for the manufacturers and traders.
G Mark gives the products bearing it a competitive advantage in the targeted markets compared to the other products that don’t bear it as the G Mark label proves for the consumer that the product was subjected to quality and safety tests.
The G mark contributes to smoothing the trade flow across the gulf markets and raising the sales of the products manufactured in the GCC countries.
It also represents a chance to maintain unified procedures of conformity assessment and clearance at customs ports for the goods imported and exported across the GCC countries.
How to apply for the G mark?
The manufacturer wishing to apply for the G Mark must provide all the required testing reports including electromagnetic compatibility, product safety test, risk assessment, in addition to English and Arabic manuals.
The notified body studies the file and reviews the documents and when the product is found to be compliant the G Mark license is granted.
The G Mark label can be affixed after the granting decision is issued by the authority.
