Robert MacIntyre avoids Masters media again as Augusta National considers reprimand

Robert MacIntyre declined interview requests for a second Masters day in succession as the Scottish player’s difficult week at Augusta National continued to draw attention away from his golf and toward his behaviour.

Officials are expected to reprimand MacIntyre over his conduct in the closing stages of the first round. The issue followed a tense and costly opening day in Georgia, where the 29-year-old endured a heavy setback on the way to an 80.

MacIntyre’s tournament effectively unravelled on Thursday. His first-round 80 included a quadruple bogey nine at the 15th, a score that left him with little margin for recovery over the remainder of the competition.

On Friday, he signed for a 71, but it was not enough to keep his Masters campaign alive. The combined seven-over-par total meant he missed the cut and will not play the weekend.

The second-round score was an improvement, but it only underlined how damaging the opening round had been. Once the quadruple bogey nine went on the card, MacIntyre was always facing an uphill battle to remain in contention.

His decision to decline media duties for the second consecutive day added another layer to an already unhappy visit to Augusta. The lack of interviews came after the first-round outbursts had drawn the attention of tournament officials, who were expected to respond with a reprimand.

For MacIntyre, the outcome was a frustrating end to a Masters appearance that never recovered from Thursday’s collapse. The Scottish golfer arrived in Georgia hoping for a strong run, but instead left after two rounds with a scorecard that reflected the scale of the damage done early in the week.

Augusta National’s attention now appears to be focused not only on the missed cut, but also on the manner in which MacIntyre handled the closing stages of his first round. The reprimand would formally follow the conduct that prompted concern among officials.

With the cut line passed and the weekend field set, MacIntyre’s 2026 Masters experience is over. A 71 on Friday offered some recovery in the scoring column, but it could not undo the problems created by the disastrous 80 on Thursday.
