The latest weather outlook from the Met Office is mixed. Rain across central and eastern areas is expected to clear soon, with showers following for most parts of the UK. Some of the heaviest showers are forecast for Northern Ireland and western Scotland, where there is also a risk of hail and thunder. It will remain windy across the country, with coastal gales in the west, while temperatures are expected to be near average.
With Essex v Somerset, Surrey v Leicestershire and the rest of the Championship fixtures in progress, attention turns to how the second day unfolds across the grounds.
