British computer scientist Adam Back denies claims he is bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto

A British computer scientist has denied that he is the elusive creator of bitcoin after a New York Times report suggested otherwise.

The report claims that London-born Adam Back may be the person behind Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous author of the bitcoin white paper. That document set out the theoretical foundations for modern digital currencies and has long been the focus of speculation about the identity of its writer.

According to the New York Times story, the newspaper examined writings over several years in an effort to unmask the bitcoin creator. It says the investigation compared those writings in an attempt to connect Back to the name Satoshi Nakamoto.

Back has rejected the claim that he is the person who created bitcoin.

The question of Nakamoto’s identity has remained one of the most persistent mysteries in the history of cryptocurrency. Despite repeated claims, investigations and theories over the years, the true identity of the white paper’s author has not been publicly confirmed.

The New York Times report adds to that long-running search, but Back’s denial leaves the mystery unresolved.
