Andoni Iraola to leave Bournemouth at end of season, alerting Premier League rivals

Andoni Iraola has informed Bournemouth that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, bringing an end to months of speculation over his future.

The announcement was relayed to the players after training on Tuesday afternoon. Iraola, 43, is now expected to weigh up his options during the summer, with a number of Premier League jobs potentially becoming available.

His departure is likely to put rival clubs on alert, particularly if vacancies emerge among top-flight sides looking for a new manager ahead of next season. The decision also raises the possibility of a return to Spain for the former defender, who has long been associated with his boyhood club Athletic Bilbao.

A move to Athletic is not guaranteed, however. The club are said to have former Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic as the leading candidate to replace Ernesto Valverde.

Iraola’s time at Bournemouth has been the subject of ongoing discussion for some time, with his stock rising during his spell in charge. Now that his exit has been confirmed, attention will turn to where he may land next and how Bournemouth will respond when they begin their search for a successor.
