Police in New York City shot and killed a man who stabbed three people on a subway platform at Grand Central station, according to the city’s police commissioner.
The attack unfolded on Saturday morning at one of the city’s busiest transit hubs. Officers were flagged down by a witness to the stabbings at about 9.40am, police commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference held at the station.
According to Tisch, officers then encountered a suspect armed with a machete. Police said he ignored at least 20 verbal orders to drop the weapon. During the confrontation, he repeatedly said “that he was Lucifer,” Tisch told reporters.
