A 45-year-old man has been arrested after a three-month-old baby girl died in what police believe was a suspected dog attack in Redcar.
Cleveland police said officers were called to a house in the Dormanstown area shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon, following a report about concern for the welfare of a child.
According to police, the baby is believed to have died as a result of a dog bite. The force said a woman was also taken to hospital with an arm injury caused by a dog bite.
The incident prompted a police response at the property in the Teesside area, where officers began investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
Police have not released further details about the child or the dog involved. The arrest of the 45-year-old man forms part of the ongoing investigation.
The case has shocked the local community, with police continuing to examine what happened in the moments before emergency services were called.
